NOAH stands for Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards. The dept that mainly handles is is the UP National Institute of Geological Sciences. goal is to reduce the impact of disasters through research (through mapping out climate patterns, weather, topography and geography)
Researchers go to different areas of the Ph, and using combination of actual field work, computer projections and satellite images, they’ve produced useable data and maps that we can use. http://noah.up.edu.ph/#/ This is a screen cap of the mobile version of the site.
SO YOU SEE, OUR SCIENTISTS HAVE COMBINED DATA TO PROJECT AND MAP OUT AREAS OF FLOODING, LANDSLIDES, STORM SURGE AREAS, EVEN EARTHQUAKE PATTERNS, VOLCANIC ACTIVITY ALL IN ONE PLACE.
What use does it have? Aside from the obvious calamity and disaster preparedness, city planners, developers for infrastructure and even tourism, whether public or private can use this data to effectively PREVENT unnecessary loss of life and property by AVOIDING “hotspots”.
In our case in medical research, we used the maps of rivers and areas of flooding to check the possible bowls and pockets of water-borne parasitic diseases such as schistosomiasis in our target areas. We combine our field data with what NOAH has to effectively make
recommendations to the RHU and DOH for local and national planning policy for treatment and prevention given how the environment CAN affect the spread of disease not just in times of calamity, but in the surrounding communities’ everyday lives.
SO WHEN NOAH WAS DEFUNDED, OUR GOVERNMENT ALSO CUT OFF THE HOPE OF HAVING SCIENCE AND DATA-BASED POLICY THAT CAN PREVENT THE NEEDLESS LOSS OF LIVES, PROPERTY AND ASSETS. So WAG NIYONG SASABIHIN NA MAY PAKIALAM ANG GOBYERNONG ITO. Helicopter surveys? Fuck that. WALA SILANG PAKI.
PROJECT NOAH IS FAR FROM OVER. Some of you might say, e andyan pa pala e. It’s running low on funds. Generation of this valuable data is not cheap. WEATHER, CLIMATE, TOPOGRAPHY, SEISMIC AND VOLCANIC ACTIVITY CHANGE and we depend on patterns to predict a good response on our part
It’s been running on the bare minimum but our scientists have been working hard to keep it running. THEY’RE THE ONES WHO CARE FOR THIS COUNTRY. Not that imbecile in the palace.
