tw ableism ?

i dont wanna accidentally hurt people and i know ableism is also deeply rooted in our society and lots of us do or say ableist things without even realizing it because it's so...standard now.
so...if anything i say ever makes you uncomfortable please please lmk

i have a hard time with mental illnesses im unfamiliar with because the line between "being ableist by blaming a person w a condition for something they can hardly control" and "being ableist by acting condescending and thinking their condition excuses their mistakes" is blurry

word limit sucks but what i mean is i know people with disabilities arent 5 year olds, and saying stuff like "oh [really bad thing] is fine actually because they didnt mean to/its due to their condition/ecc." is just as ableist and condescending if not even more so.

i say this bc while i myself struggle w a lot of things im not a toddler. you don't have to treat me w baby gloves if i fuck up, i am just as accountable as everybody else and would hate to be lied to just bc i'm ND so its "not my fault"

And i know others who feel the same.
