One like = one spicy take on pedagogy
Number one inspirational teaching quotation:

"Everybody as a plan until they get punched in the mouth."

But it's still important to have a plan that you can throw out the minute you interact with your students.
Students wouldn't stop having depression and anxiety if they didn't have to work 50hrs/week to afford tuition. But they'd be able to do a lot more to manage their mental health without constant financial pressure.
Nearly everything that's wrong with higher ed in the U.S. stems from the fact that we consider it a private commodity rather than a public good.
If students (and their parents) knew that so many of their classes are taught by people who earn $1800/semester, they'd never spend another dime on tuition.
Institutional brand obsession is not inevitable. It's a function of the commodification of higher ed. Universities are like gas stations. People can't actually distinguish the product, so instead we sell them brand identities.

What if we didn't have to compete for students?
Relational teaching is exhausting because our who educational system is designed to be transactional.
If I let myself remember, even for a moment, what it's like to circulate through a crowded classroom talking to students, I'd start crying and I wouldn't be able to stop.
We surveil students because we're afraid of what would happen if they got to make choices.
