Folks don't know what to call what Trump is doing: is it a "coup," "big lie," "con," "grift," "ploy," etc. It's all those things. Trump makes sense if you think of him as Authoritarian PT Barnum. Part entertainer, part authoritarian. He pretends to be an authoritarian for effect.

Trump is a demagogue of the spectacle, he believes he can create reality. So far that's worked for him. It won't work in this case, but he's defiant and he won't admit it.
