That the market continued to flourish and the elite continued padding their stockpiles during Trump’s disastrous presidency, the pandemic, and even during this attempted coup should tell you the wealthy have transcended our politics and work outside our general welfare.

Because of Reaganism and the restructuring of our economy, the wealthy have moved beyond stages like nationhood and democratic politics. They’re onto another game that has left us behind. Our representative government is just a lever beneath them now.

We must continue to fight the political battles laid out for us, because they do matter, but we also have to realize there’s a giant battle needing fought to reverse massive inequalities and reestablish a civilization that’s inherently human and decent.
