All I get from those calling for Solskjaer to go is ‘well, I’m accessing his whole time here’. Okay, well let’s. Took over a club at Christmas 6th in league with confidence on floor and toxicity rampant and lead us to 14 wins in next 19 games and one unforgettable night in Paris.
Did more than enough as caretaker to earn the permanent United job and returned us to the champions league with only second highest league finish since Sir Alex and three cup semifinals in his first full season at the club.
In just two years he’s overseeing a complete squad overhaul. Out: Lukaku, Sanchez, Herrera, Smalling, Darmian, Pereira/Dalot (loans) In: Maguire, AWB, James, Ighalo, Fernandes, Cavani, vDB, Telles, Diallo, Henderson. He also flew for talks with Haaland and identified Sancho.
Solskjaer has done all this while benching Pogba without a peep, placing trust in academy graduates, only investing in players with the right profile to kick a ball for the club, gets the results when he needs it the most and speaks about club with dignity and respect.
Solskjaer has had to work with the same pressures every man who followed Sir Alex has had, the same notorious board with profit placed before football and he has assembled a squad - inconsistent still - but clearly 100% behind him.
Nobody said following Sir Alex was going to be easy. And yes cups with van Gaal and Mourinho were nice and I celebrated them with everything I had but I want a club built for sustained success not a passing title. Give him a chance, maybe. He’s getting more right than you think.
