COVID-19 has taught cities that they need more public space, more green space and more room for pedestrians and cyclists. Here it is. 2/
The plan extends from Bloor Street down to Queen Street, linking @ROMToronto, the @UofT campus, the city's major hospitals, Queen's Park and City Hall. 3/
The key is changing half of this avenue (an “underperforming civic asset”) into green space. 4/
Which it was until the 1930s. 5/
This is designed by PUBLIC WORK, and presented by the Michael Young Family Foundation and @evergreen. They’re suggesting that @CityofToronto move it forward. https://universitypark.evergreen.ca/  6/
It's an appropriate physical response to the pandemic. Relatively inexpensive; totally non-commercial; focused on public institutions; serving the health and comfort of thousands of hospital patients and workers. 7/ #topoli #onpoli #parks #landarch #urbanism
The logic is clear. But it's even clearer if you've spent time as a patient or family member at the downtown hospitals @SickKidsNews, @UHN or @SinaiHealth. I have. Greenspace there is badly needed. 8/
And an important note: this proposal maintains the existing vehicle lanes in this corridor (two each way). 9/
