Teh in episode 4: a thread
From the first few minutes we see how heteronormativity is plagued in life. whether his mother means it or not, her words are like knives to teh’s heart- he realises he has to hide who he is to make her happy. so he lies to himself + oh-aew #แปลรักEP4
hes in the wrong for leading oh-aew and tarn on. he’s struggling which doesn’t excuse this, because they are people with feelings. but the truth is he cant live life to the fullest because it is a burden and he doesn’t even think its possible so he doesn’t follow his heart
the only way he can express his love openly is through helping oh-aew and of course that confuses oh-aew because teh doesn’t acknowledge whats between them but he tries to channel his feelings in helping him in anyway that he can and he hopes that oh-aew can understand that
a few minutes in the pool is where he got to be away from the world’s judging eyes and everyone’s expectations. where it was just him and his love and he did whatever he could and what he wanted to do without thinking about the consequences
reality comes crashing back down when oh-aew (rightfully so) asks what they are and teh just cant choose oh-aew over his mother’s wishes and the expectations to live upto his brother and by doing that he loses and hurts the one he loves
his life revolved around getting to university. giving up his place IS an act of love, he heard that oh-aew is throwing his life away and gave it all up even when it meant his own future is uncertain. for once, he did something from the heart & went against his mother. #แปลรักEP4
teh’s reaction and entire character is valid because you cant expect a person to grow up in a homophobic world and not have internal struggles when they realise who they are, especially when the whole world says its wrong.
as an asian lgbtq, we have to struggle between our parents expectations, burdens from society and our own happiness. when we find out something about ourselves its not easy to accept it, so we cling to things such as studying or our futures to make them proud and to be accepted.
