Something that really bums me out—and a big part of the reason why I left this platform for a bit—is the external pressure on agents to perform their work on here.
Do I use twitter as a professional tool? Yes, though not exclusively! Am I also a human person with hobbies and interests and stresses and worries? Yup!
But there is CONSTANT pressure to Perform My Job on twitter. CONSTANT. Endless, endless dms. People making joke comments about why I’m cross-stitching and not reading.
It’s exhausting and depressing. I’m a person. Agents are people.
I feel like I do a lot to help the writer community! I have written blog posts and made podcasts! I teach classes! I do Q&As! I went about industry topics that are relevant and important.
But I can’t get through one day without someone on here asking for (sometimes demanding!) more. And it sucks.
Anyway! Gonna go do some work that isn’t visible on social media! And I hope every agent I know does something non-work-related for their own pleasure today. ❤️
