1/ Like many immunocompromised people, I've been in self-isolation since late February.

I can count on both hands the number of times I have been out of my house since then to go to the pharmacy or post office.

I'm going to get on a 6 hour flight tomorrow...
2/...I have severe asthma that makes breathing in a mask difficult, so I have a special mask that has an air supply inside of it that I'll wear under the surgical mask the airline requires.

I got a covid test yesterday that, of course, came back negative...
3/ I say "of course" because, again...you have to come into contact with people to get covid and I've not been closer than 6 feet to a person other than my husband or son in almost a year.

Once I arrive at my destination, I'm required to quarantine for 3 days and then...
4/ ...get another covid test before I am clear to come out of quarantine and roam freely, with a mask and physical distancing, for the duration of my stay.

I am terrified of catching covid because I am in an extremely high risk group, but I have to travel, so...
5/ I understand wanting to get together for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I really do.

When I come back from this trip, I'll be planning a Thanksgiving dinner for 3: my husband, my son, and myself. Same goes for Christmas. Because we are heading straight into COVID hell.
6/ Estimates are that by Christmas, we will lose 2500 people every day from covid.

That's if we keep doing exactly what we're doing with mask compliance and social distancing. That's not worst case scenario.

Worst case, we lose over 3k people per day.

7/ I don't know how we fix this.

I don't know how to convince you to care about other people.

I don't know how to convince you to care about yourself.

I do know one thing that's worked in the past, though.
8/ Remember those CDC anti-smoking campaigns featuring people who had tracheostomies?
9/ And the CDC anti-smoking ads that had people dying from cigarette smoking-related cancers imploring people not to start and if they started, to quit?
10/ We need these for COVID-19. And we need them right fucking now.

Sara Montoya, 43, posted this message before she died from COVID-19.

"Please do not put your families at risk, I did the best I thought I could, It is not worth it."
11/ If I get COVID and am hospitalized, I'm giving my husband, who is an ICU doctor and won't be allowed to take care of me but will definitely be allowed to be in the room, to document every minute, just like Pamela Orlando, 56, did before she died.
12/ Please share these stories.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here.

I know you are all wearing masks and social distancing and being responsible....mostly.

It's so hard, and it's just getting harder as we get more exhausted by the isolation and economic fallout...
13/ But someone in your friend group hasn't seen the reality of what COVID can do to a body.

We need more brave people like these to document the worst parts of COVID-19 and share them with the world. https://twitter.com/AynRandPaulRyan/status/1327249698629971968?s=20
Reyna Lopez, 31, mom of three, was diagnosed with COVID-19 two months after giving birth, spent four months in the hospital.

She woke up in September and thought it was still June.
15/ Thank you all for your recommendations! Yes, we are wearing face shields and goggles. :)
