The people of #Ethiopia tried to vote out the #EPRDF in 2005. EPRDF brought Ethiopia to the brink of genocide and civil war in 2018. It is a failed system. Now TPLF forces are behaving as they were Boko Haram or LRA - slaughtering a whole village of innocents. Negotiation? How???

Articles like this are a distortion of reality. The TPLF revolt - which has involved multiple atrocities against the Ethiopian army and innocent civilians - must be treated as a wholly separate matter from the greater question of Ethiopia's future political system. Spoilers cannot be privileged in the national dialogue.

The int'l community has one chance to stop this conflict: we must speak with a unified voice to demand that #TPLF disarm. Calls for negotiation will only harden TPLF resolve. It will only prove that unlawful assaults on civilians and the army are a winning strategy for spoilers.
