Everyone should make an effort to find the smartest, most honest, most principled people from the 'other team' and engage with them. And not just engage, but actively boost their profile within their camp.

A common objection I get to this is something like "The other side is horrible, maybe a few good ones, but mostly insane people".

But if the other side is truly filled with insanity, it's *even more important* to give the sane, honest ones a fighting chance to gain influence.

Predictably, this was hit with morons going 'haha just be friends with fascists'.

No, the point (if you're the left/center-left) is that the political right exists, you can't wish them away, and it's better for sane center-right people to have influence instead of the fascists.
