It’s time to change the messaging about child sex abuse cases being difficult to prosecute. They are not.

In fact, they are the easiest & least expensive so long as we respect children as persons worthy of justice. Just put them on the stand, ask what happened, & rest your case.
Even advocates say these cases are difficult. They say the same about rape cases. These false narratives deter reporting-scare victims away from justice & justify irrational nonprosecution decisions. (“We dropped the charges to protect the victim from the trauma of justice.”)
Children & all rape victims shd be encouraged to testify & the public (who become jurors) shd think of these cases as easy to win & routine-like other cases. The defense can cross-examine but so what. Def. attorneys aren’t tough on kids bc jury would use it against their clients.
It’s time to start messaging the public that child sex abuse cases are easy to win & should routinely be prosecuted. Kids are great witnesses because they’re terrible liars. Make no mistake, perps are far more afraid of children testifying than are kids afraid to take the stand.
Studies show that children we allow to testify fare better in the long run, psychologically and emotionally, than children we “protect” from the system by not filing charges or dropping the charges so they don’t have to testify.

Respect children. Let them testify.
