I've found this first week of lockdown/new restrictions/whatever we're calling it, dead hard. But it has got me thinking about whether I could use this time to be of some help, rather than just, you know, watching 368 episodes of The West Wing
So, as of next week, I'm going to be running MAGAZINE MAGIC MASTERCLASSES. I'll be joined by some of the finest people in magazines (and newspapers), and we're going to put on useful, practical virtual sessions on making magazine/media magic
It will include art direction, news reporting, column writing, interviewing, reviewing, podcasts, subbing, social...The whole shebang. It's aimed at students, wanna-be journos/designers/editors/subs and those in junior jobs. But anyone, everyone is welcome and it's FREE FREE FREE
The aim is that everyone leaves the session knowing the reality of how the job is done day-to-day and with knowledge and skills that can be put into practice immediately. Our industry survives, thrives on not just shared passion, but the passing on of information and learnings
I have been *so* lucky in my career, to learn and hear from the best. Who had me at their elbow while teaching me how to write, sketch, commission, edit, build covers. We're not in rooms together anymore, but hopefully this can help someone else a bit, like I was once helped
A brilliant gang have already (and so generously) agreed to join me in the sessions, including @mrsb_dda, @KenyaNHunt, @sophwilkinson, @juderogers, @MsEllenEJones, @ItsMeAnitaB, @ScarRoseRussell, @awarmann, @Rebecca_hol, @ChrisHewitt. And there are more to come!
I'm going to publish a full calendar soon, but the first one will be this coming Tuesday 17th at 6:30pm. It's me in conversation with @boydhilton for a session on INTERVIEWING
Link and full details to come, but I'd love it if you fancied joining us. 21-year-old Terri really wishes she could come along #magazinemagicmasterclasses
