*clears throat*

This is why many were NOT pushing for CRBs to be mandatory.

1. CRB is just one option of oversight
2. How can civilians run something they don’t know about
3. If the civilians aren’t empowered by it, civilians can’t run it.

Then it’s state oversight. 🤷🏽‍♀️ https://twitter.com/the_bkc/status/1327141725551398914
Look yall, in theory we what this type of civilian oversight mandated.

BUT in the KKKommonwealth, WE HAVE TO DO THE WORK of resourcing the REACH to provide PEOPLE in localities, not officials, the options for oversight & how to apply to their specific context.
Civilian oversight at the state isn’t bringing power to individuals, it was never intended.

Many advocates saw mandating it as a way for THEIR (usually urban) locality but EVERY setting must see it.

The reality that the people aint “ready” is cuz we ain’t shared what we know.
In conclusion, if you advocated for civilian oversight in the GA, I’m looking for partners with @thcjusticenow to spread the possibilities of Civilian Oversight to the PEOPLE.

Not officials to decided what THEY want for the locality.

Hit me up. This is how u pass a bill.
Ah, sorry, so what was the purposes of only “enabling” at state level. Welp, good ol “Dillion rule” in Virginia.

Literally we had to undo the Kommonweath’s 1868 law that required localities to get PERMISSION for laws like civilian oversight.

Repeat: WE HAD TO GET PERMISSION.
Btw, we didn’t undo the Dillion rule, big daddy #valeg granted us permission.

Now it’s up to us to get to work.

Y’all don’t think they are?!?!

@sarahjaneva would love ur help!

But we need groups like @LegalAidJustice & @JusticeFwdVa to help us outside the GA as well.
You can follow @ChelseaWiseRVA.
