Had some time to digest the DMac news and I'm even more angry and depressed than before.

Its actually not just about David. I'm sure he's a lovely guy. But this decision is completely representative of the club as a whole, and why the club is in the position that it is.
This club has no ruthlessness, no ambition. We're not prepared to make the hard calls, and don't strive for excellence in every facet.

We want to be the nice guys. We want to be liked by everyone. We take the easy option first, and only do something uncomfortable if we have to.
The club know a huge percentage of supporters are happy clappers that will back in the boys, offer a hearty "well done, better luck next time" when we're beaten, and keep paying their membership fees. The KPIs will keep being met, and the admin will pat themselves on the back.
Of course, anybody who doesn't fall into line and have blind faith in all that the club does is labelled as "not being a real supporter".

Bullshit!

Real supporters challenge the club, keep them accountable. They don't let them rest on their laurels. They demand excellence.
Back onto David. So many responses of "but he sets elite training standards".

Thats nice, but you have to offer more than just training standards to be on an AFL list. You have to actually offer something valuable on field too. More than an average of 15 touches in 230 games.
"He won't play much. He'll just mentor the kids in the SANFL and only play AFL if we have injuries".

Nope. Same has been said for the last three years. Played 45 of 61* games in that time. If he's there, the temptation to play him has proven too great.

(*less with inj/susp)
"We need some old guys in a rebuild. Can't be all kids".

Sloane, Tex, Talia, Mrouch, Smith, Laird, Lynch, Brown. Theres enough experience there with guys that still offer something. Not to mention, we actually looked better this year when the kids were running the show...
I'm sure people will just label me salty, soft, fake fan, whatever. I don't care. The club has been on a downward spiral for a long time now. It was masked by the run to the 17 GF, but if you look at it objectively we've been on the wrong path for the best part of a decade.
The decision today is just a microcosm of all that. Again, its nothing personal against David, but I'm just sick of seeing our club fail so hard time and again. I want success, I want joy, I want us to be the best we can possibly be.

I won't apologise for that.
Anyway, rant over. Might be time for another beer.
