Here in my downtown #shanghai neighborhood, local acquaintances have been concerned that 45 might win bc of the negative impact that’d have on import/export, jobs, foreign policy, etc. Truth - I’ve made local FRIENDS this week than in the past year as concerns turn to hope. https://twitter.com/latimes/status/1327205318137360384
I know that there is no perfect place. I know that there is a lot of massively problematic foreign policy. And I know that people like me - who aren’t in govt or policy making - are more or less just trying to get by. I work for a state uni and am grateful to have a job as a prof
I’m not tenure track here, and wouldn’t be in the USA or any other country either. I teach writing and comms, do a decent job of it for a program that is happy to have me. My students want to do international study. I want them to have that access without fear.
I want students in the US to have access to international study as well. I want university programs to keep a constant flow of knowledge and talent exchange going. With a prez like 45, none of that was possible. Govt fvkery makes everything harder for we who encourage exchange.
