Because you decided to shoulder press the unseasoned soul, that is somehow meant to help him see the error in his racist ways?

It’s because you still think about racism as a slight character flaw as opposed to the juggernaut of a mechanism it actually is.
Misquoting Nelson Mandela and MLK about love being the way to tackle racism etc might help you to sleep better at night but the fact remains that love of self as Black people might require letting people feel the consequences of their racism.
