While Level 5 is a blunt tool in tackling COVID in 🇮🇪 - it does work. But with 3 weeks to go, does it still make sense to treat every county equally? 14-Day rates vary from 281.4 in Donegal, to 49.4 in Wexford. Leitrim @ 53.1 is averaging 1.2 case per day #COVID19ireland
Looking @ Wexford & Leitrim, were those counties to return to Level 3 even just 2 weeks early, you’d expect (based on PUP) ~ 4,365 people to return to work. Not only is that good for workers & SMEs, but the state would avoid €2.5+ million in PUP costs #COVID19ireland
And to go totally mad while we’re at it, by rewarding counties & saving €’s, we could instead invest in rapid test/enhanced sanitation programme(s) on rail & bus routes out of Dublin for Xmas in effort to avoid endless cycle of lockdowns #COVID19ireland https://institute.global/policy/pandemic-proofing-travel
