Whilst the DDA has been instrumental in improving lives, unemployment and poverty levels amongst disabled people has remained at unacceptable levels for at least a decade. 1. In 2017/18, around three in ten of disabled people lived in poverty, a rate that has persisted since 2012/13. Nearly half of those in poverty either were disabled, or lived in family where there was a disability.
2. Only half of working-age disabled people were not working, a rate that has persisted for at least six years. Those that are employed work, on average, 13 hours fewer a week than non-disabled people.
