1. I've tried to look at government as a huge corporate case study
It makes it easier 4 me
Sometimes less mind bogglingly maddening
Can't help but feel when a senior dude like DC goes...it's probably all about him, the dynamic & timing
It's like the exec who leaves a trail 🤔
2. The exec's seen as golden/cash cow/biz developer/the brains
They're untouchable
It creates a culture
Sows the seeds of distrust
Creates a powerful company dynamic

Folks wait for the time when they'll go
Those who challenge get sidelined, their careers ended or silenced
3. & they are like teflon
The culture bubbles, steams, strains

DC is like the management consultant who gives other management consultants a bad name

We need to transform, be mavericks, disrupters, digital, data nerds, use tech, be ahead of the curve
They talk a good story
&
4. the devils in the detail
they don't do detail
Detail is where folks lose their maverick powers
They get sucked in...become part of the establishment....they can't transform

They bring in their mates...

I'm sure the sales pitch looked good
& they leave before the hard work
5. Good change people
*Don't leave when it gets tough
*Are more than good slides & soundbite comms (let's ignore this as the evidence was lacking)
*They care about the long term
*They adjust/ learn/ engage/do the hard stuff/care about impact/consider the wider stakeholders
6. Good change people cont.
*Have ethics
*A track record
*Think about unintended consequences
*Try to unite & find common ground & execute hard plans
To leave before it get's to the tough stuff #BrexitReality
That's when the company/country has to prepare for a rocky ride
7. This is my #TedTalk that DC will never see
I live in hope we can heal the cultural rifts, get over the legacy & come through this torrid time
