Why MS didn't succeed?
Well, they tried but Windows is like Android - can't push every manufacturer to do the same + Windows has a lot of legacy software and compatibility just because it's the most used OS.

And only Apple could take the risk - they control their own hardware and software + they have enough market share so companies and devs would translate their apps to work on ASi.
And one more reason - Apple is very popular and companies like Adobe won't let something to replace

Will the performance be better than previous MBs - Yes, definitely.
Will the performance be better than PC laptop - Yeah and no. Depends on the machine.
Should I buy it - it's a first-gen product, so no. Unless all of your software works (and it's optimized) for ARM.
