If what emerges from Cummings drama is govt that works better (due to less ‘punch in the face’ approach to everyone), agenda appealing to softTories wooed by Starmer (more green stuff, less culture war) then it’s got huge electoral implications.
am v sceptical that govt can just flip the switch back to London Mayor era Boris after Brexit, because 1.people won’t forget 2.economic impact of Brexit makes everything govt wants to do harder. Red wall Tories will also see this as a risk to their voters.
So, no guarantee it works. But it could blunt some of Labour’s attacks. Also, what price no deal now? Do that, & there’d be no point trying to ‘reset’ afterwards to more moderate, less confrontational Toryism. It just wouldn’t stick.
