Please allow me to correct the skewed narrative.
There is no available data which proves that #Laxmii has set a new record by surpassing the viewership of Sushant Singh Rajput's last film, #DilBechara.
Some journalists are blindly copy-pasting each other's reports.

Thread begins
Most of such reports have come from a web-desk.
What's a web-desk?
This is a publishing desk which is managed by content managers who are not journalists by any measure.
Their job is to quickly generate content to keep a website up and running.
They mostly copy-paste and rewrite.
None of these "web-desk" managers have raised a question about how and who has claimed that #Laxmii is a superhit and what are its viewership numbers.
More important, what are #DilBechara's final viewership numbers?
Truth is: Not one of those figures have been released.
Go into any of the hurriedly compiled web-desk articles and you will see this Instagram post which claims that the film is a huge hit.
It's like a company saying that their product is the best.
All companies say that and they should be saying so too.
It's called Advertising.
Public Relations is a part of marketing and in most companies, a part of the budget is reserved for PR after the Ads hit the market.
In this case too, a PR exercise has started to claim Akshay pipped Sushant's last film when even the source (the Instagram post) does not claim so.
Whosoever is behind this PR exercise, let me tell you this. THIS IS IN VERY POOR TASTE.
This is a textbook case of how to not do PR.
I wouldn't have reacted had you not brought Sushant into this.
Why use his film to show another film in better light?
What was the need to do this?
These are my questions for the web-desk managers.
1. What do you mean by an opening?
2. How many people watched it on Day 1 of release?
3. Laxmi won by how many viewers?
4. How is a film declared superhit on an OTT platform?
5. Who from the OTT platform is on record saying this?
Some are saying that the OTT platform gained the maximum number of subscribers during the same period when Akshay's film was about to release. This gain is being directly attributed to Akshay Kumar's film.
Truth: The OTT platform has come on record saying it's not the case.
. @DisneyPlusHS has attributed the growth of subscribers to the delayed start of the IPL.
Their CFO Christine McCarthy has come on record about this. Nowhere has she mentioned that the growth in the subscriber base was due to the release of #Laxmii

Dear Akshay Kumar,
If your film has done well, I am happy for you.
May Mata Laxmi bless you.
But please instruct your marketing team to refrain from using Sushant's last film to promote your Diwali release.
This is not backed by facts and more, this looks bad on you.

Addition:
A lot of people are citing this press release. Have you read it?
The statement says, "opening night". But headline says, "opening".
Do you know the servers of the OTT crashed on the night of #DilBechara release?

Is blindly copy-pasting press releases called Journalism?
Sad about people who blindly follow everything without questioning anything.
These are blind fans who don't see anything, don't question anything and don't even talk about anything contrary.
For them, verified sources are those journalists who blindly copy paste from PR releases.
I will be much interested to know about the viewership figures after two days. Did it show a rise? Or there was a steep fall?
This is OTT and not screens, there's no way to verify any number or claim.
Either you blindly believe a source or you question its authenticity.
While comparing the films, have they added a disclaimer that #DilBechara was made available to all while #Laxmii was available for VIP subscribers only?
Let us talk money, shall we?
Multiply the number of new VIP subscribers with the subscription charge.
How much does it come to?
Please answer the questions.
1. How many VIP members were added for #Laxmii only?
2. How many viewers were there for #DilBechara?
3. How many streamed both the movies on the opening night?
4. How's a movie being declared a hit?
5. What about viewers lost because of server outage?
