Republicans have elected a Nazi (Madison Cawthorn), a qanon fan (Marjorie Taylor), and may re-elect 2 senators who are accused of insider trading.

And their president is attempting a coup.

And yet the culture writ large is focused on intra part Dem issues.
It’s been so interesting watching how much the media and really all of us seem to care about the squabbles between various dem party members.

Which makes me wonder why.

Why do we only care about Democrats?
And I’ve come to the conclusion that the narrators of American culture are deeply embarrassed about their Republican relatives and friends, because even though they tell us it’s about economic anxiety they know it’s race.
This is why so much of the media and pundit circle are focused around intra party democratic squabbles.

We are all just going to pretend the ideological spectrum goes from aoc to manchin.

Because we are too scared and too anxious to demand that the GOP should reform.
How much of this focus on Dem intra party issues is because we cannot really face the reality of what republicans want this country to look like?

So we focus on the part of the spectrum that seems normal for a developed country.

And just ignore the coup attempts and the Nazis
The way large sections of this country’s media and activist circle just pretend the Republicans don’t exist, is really detrimental to our really fragile democracy.

We’ve allowed one party to become so awful that we don’t even talk about their political plans in polite society
And our democracy is both young and fragile.

We like to think of ourselves as an old democracy but until the voting rights act was passed, we were not a democracy.

One party is attempting a coup in a very young and fragile democracy.
One party is attempting a coup and the Dems range from center left to center, and thus caused some intra party issues.

Not exactly the same level of existential problem.
But we focus on the Dems because what the GOP is doing scares us, but this is also why they’ve been able to escalate so quickly from a center right party to a radical right wing coup attempting party.
