This should not be a surprise.
Kenney is a Dominionist Christian. He believes human rights are divinely bestowed by god through the “inerrant” bible. Natural law supersedes secular law. It’s not just international law rejected. He also rejects the Charter of Rights & Freedoms. https://twitter.com/jenniferkoshan/status/1326304500542435328

The UCP platform included a commitment to repeal human rights legislation in Alberta. And also to make access to the Alberta Human Rights Commission difficult.
Kenney believes and will legislate that human rights are bestowed by god, not man.

Already removed anti-racism funding. http://globalnews.ca/news/6165873/alberta-ucp-funding-anti-racism-initiatives/
Tried removing access to abortion and medically assisted dying through introduction of conscience rights legislation. That didn’t fly, but the commitment was made, so he will try again. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/advocates-say-conscience-rights-bill-207-1.5354803
In other jurisdictions where human rights have been removed, efforts are made to dehumanize those targeted. Rwandan Tutsi’s were likened to cockroaches. Jews were said to eat children and drink blood.

In June, Kenney attempted to remove the constitutional right to protest. He passed legislation, but it’s a matter of time before the Supreme Court rules it is unconstitutional. In the mean time many Albertans are afraid to protest. https://rabble.ca/blogs/bloggers/alberta-diary/2020/06/albertas-bill-1-bad-law-bad-theatre-and-unconstitutional-0
Kenney wrote a rage fuelled letter to Amnesty International Canada when criticized for funding a War Room to fight citizens opposed to fossil fuels. Noteworthy that the War Room remains funded, but classrooms received cuts. During a pandemic. https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/read-the-full-text-jason-kenney-responds-to-amnesty-internationals-criticism-of-his-fight-back-strategy
And who can forget Kenney’s complete disregard for indigenous treaty rights? Wet’suwet’en’s second RCMP raid was due to AIMco demanding an injunction be served and access granted before any land claim could be taken to court. Section 35 rights be damned. https://www.nationalobserver.com/2020/01/07/news/judy-wilson-sonya-savage-get-educated-land-rights
Kenney didn’t hide his disdain for Human Rights. He clearly wants to make Human Rights difficult to enforce. He plans on making evidence requirement the same as courts. Requiring lawyers & expensive legal research. Making it inaccessible to most victims.

Kenney has been abundantly clear human rights is an intrusion on what UCP believes and represents. Restrictions on religious freedom and impositions on property rights. Those are the rights he prefers.
You’re willfully blind if you haven’t seen Kenney’s attack on human rights.

However, in everyone’s defence...
There are so many social issues under attack it is difficult to be aware of them all. Let that sink in...
There are so many attacks on human rights in Alberta, by UCP, it’s difficult to keep informed. Because of the sheer volume of attacks.
