While many of us know that AOC hasn’t gotten a SINGLE piece of legislation passed, I’m doing a deep dive into how unproductive she’s been, possibly the least productive freshman of all House Dems.
To begin with, let’s look at her GovTrack report, lots of information here. To begin with, let’s talk about getting bills out of committee. Of her 10 introduced bills, how many got out?
ZERO. Absolutely none of her bills got out of committee, obviously meaning none of them were enacted. Every other member of the NY House delegation had at least one bill that got out of committee.
There were other House freshman who didn’t get bills out of committee, mostly Republicans. Our freshman who got 3-7 bills out of committee? Joe Cunningham, XTS, Max Rose, Shalala, DMP, etc. Hard workers who lost while AOC sailed to re-election in her D+30 district.
AOC introduced 10 bills, the second least of anyone in the NY delegation. Shalala introduced 20. Rouda introduced 18. They lost. For context, Haaland introduced 27, and Porter introduced 17.
Harley Rouda cosponsored over 100 more bills than her, yet has lost. Pressley cosponsored over 50 more. Haaland cosponsored OVER 200 MORE.
How about bipartisanship? Critical to passing anything is gaining support from and working with the other side. Of her bills, 0/10 had bipartisan support, thus ranking her last in the NY delegation on this matter.
She is 1 of only 2 Freshman Dems to get 0 bipartisan cosponsors on bills. Finkenauer got 10, Horn and McAdams got 9, XTS and Cunningham got 8, and so on. And they all lost, even though they put in the work.
Another key metric? Joining bipartisan bills, which she did the second least often of the entire NY delegation. 5% of the bills she cosponsored had bipartisan support, meanwhile Cunningham was at 40%, and most other House freshman at least passed the 15% threshold.
Key to getting stuff done is getting influential cosponsors, someone who is a committee chair or ranking member of a committee. Getting these people on your bill makes it much likelier to pass. 1/10 of her bills had an influential cosponsor, while Haaland and Rouda had over 10!
On her bills, out of NY’s 27 Hoise members she ranked 21st at getting cosponsors on her bills, meanwhile people like Hakeem Jeffries and Max Rose were putting in the work.
ONE OF THE MOST SHOCKING STATS: She has a higher Trump score (voting in with him) than 80% of House Dems, at 14.3%. For context, Spanberger votes with Trump 7% of the time, and Cunningham 8%! How is that progressive!?
To conclude, not one of AOC’s bills has been enacted, and she is awful at getting bipartisan support, which can be key if she ever wants to hold a higher office.
While she was being a backbencher and tweeting all day, people like Cunningham, Horn, XTS, Rouda, Rose, Finkenauer, DMP, etc., we’re doing the work and getting shit done. Underwood almost lost and was 10 times as productive as her.
She can lecture us all she wants if she actually gets the work done, but clearly she hasn’t, and gloats about moderates losing because they aren’t “progressive” enough for her, although they put in the work and unfairly lost because of policies she embraced.
CORRECTION: Veronica Escobar has actually now gotten 4 bills passed with bipartisan support! Congrats Veronica! So, AOC is the ONLY freshman Dem with 0 bipartisan bill support.
