Some interesting back-and-forth in the latest legal filings in the federal case on which the Trump campaign has pinned its greatest hope of delegitimizing Pennsylvania’s election results. /THREAD.
Before I begin, I should point out despite Trump’s claims of widespread, systemic voter fraud. The suit makes not one allegation — let alone provide evidence to support — of a ballot being deliberately cast illegally.
Anyway, in briefs today, Trump’s campaign acknowledges its evidence of widespread irregularities is thin to nonexistent. They say they’re seeking “a brief pause to confirm their well-founded theory that Pennsylvania elections officials counted tens of thousands of illegal votes.”
In response, state officials don’t hold back. Calling the suit a “slap-dash” amalgamation of “conjectural theories.”

“The voters of Pennsylvania have spoken. … The court should deny plaintiff’s desperate and unfounded attempt to interfere with that process.”
Lawyers for the defendant counties, including Philly and its suburbs, are even more pointed, calling the suit “an attack on our electoral system.”

“There should be no mistake, this case … is a candidate’s audacious attempt to overturn the results of a free and fair election.”
