This is the flaw w the wealthy who think that the way to support folks in need is through charity. It reminds me of funders who prefer to fund service programs over community organizing/advocacy. It elevates charity over political/policy work, as if there is a moral high ground. https://twitter.com/mcuban/status/1326952915504951300
Meanwhile structural changes are the best way to support all communities. It is about building power. It’s about centering the needs of people around every area of our eco systems. Politics & policy spaces shouldn’t only be for the wealthy.
The rich understand the power of investing in politics & policy work. They put their money in think tanks & politicians regularly. But somehow the marginalized are sequestered to the charity space only. It’s about control & it’s classism masquerading as compassion. END OF RANT.
