Having been a lead on skins, but no longer at Riot: no one on the champ/skins team would take a random Rioter's love interest and use that as a basis for a million dollar business decision. It's annoying that some Riot dude tried to mislead her about what he could do. https://twitter.com/TimRizzo/status/1327021474331455491
The statement above notes that the Rioter in question (she calls him "John") exists--so she isn't inventing a story. I believe she actually feels very hurt and confused by this, and I know Rioters who have tried to use their position to get girls so I basically blame him.
Also, quoting from her piece: "John also told me he was partially involved with K/DA’s first skins, informally, because he knew a lot of the people on the team."
Cause I was the skins lead on the first K/DA set so lemme know who this guy is so I CAN KILL HIM for leaking shit

Final post: I default to taking this woman's claims at face value. Riot confirms that "John" is real. According to her account, he not only misled her, he also apparently broke his NDA by leaking stuff to her. That shit isn't cool. I'm not blaming her for that. It's his fault.
One last thing: re the "awkward Ahri" skin
I was one of 2 product managers on skins at that time (spring 2019). Rioters would msg me/stop me in the hall to pitch ideas but "hey make awkward Ahri" would never be taken as a serious idea. That's just not how Riot makes stuff.

K, 1 more thing: there's an unfortunate power imbalance between "Rioters" and fans. Some shitty people abuse that.
The fact my random comments on this has netted hundreds of RTs even though I AM NO LONGER AT RIOT just proves the "authority" that even an ex-Rioter can have.

I don't know what I would have believed if I was in this woman's situation. I'd probably be confused and wonder too. While it's obvious to me *right now* when a dude is all "I'm totally an important person, trust me!" I'm also 39. I'm an old, wizened lady

Also stop following me for League of Legends reasons, you're going to be really disappointed when it's just me shilling my company
