Assalam Dato’, l wld like to relate a story of own experience of an event likened to what we’re seeing now. It happened in a country down south where the failure of a minister to defend his charges had resulted in the collapse of the cabinet n paved the path to a gen election.
I was in Australia in 1971 attending a mil course when one day l read in the morning newspaper a stunning rep that the CGS, Lt Gen Sir Daly had resigned over his disagreement with the Minister of Army.
The event prior to his resignation was the failure of the minister to answer appropriately to a question posed by an opposition MP in Parliament over the movement of the Ceremonial Gds which had to be transported fr one state to another for the ceremonial duties n according to…
…him had incurred high cost n tantamounting to wastage of public fund. The minister in his reply was to investigate the practice n etc etc. but not one that sp n def the Ceremonial Gds deployment in the affirmative.
The reply given by the minister was not acceptable to the CGS n it was a reply that did not def the said unit n hence the army. For failing to def the army which was under his responsibility, the CGS went on to accuse the minister of being disloyal to the army.
There was a public outcry over the issue n the gen public gave their sp to Gen Sir Daly n instead of accepting his resignation they pressured for the minister of army to be sacked!
To cut the story short, the minister of army resigned n was fol by the the def minister n eventually the PM n the whole cabinet also resigned. The episode turned into a National crisis n paved the way to a GE. Well, that was Australia about 50 yrs ago.
Our health minister has yet to issue a statement or give reply in Parliament or encapsulate his embattled DG. Sedih.
