Man, I didn't know that this year I was gonna have to learn to just let people fail sometimes.
For context, I'm the lead on training and educational materials for product and diversity on my team. someone stepped in to do a training he thought of and did it without asking for any help. when it came to give feedback i had PAGES. we have met 3 times and it's the same -
- feedback every time with little to no improvement. i want to take the reigns and help but we were told we were too mean in our feedback (us being the other two memeber of my team, and all WOC - presenter is white dude).
We were told that our standards are "too perfect." So, I've decided that I need to stop cleaning up his mess and let him execute the project bc i'm obviously not appreciated or valued and i rang the alarm three times already.
so yeah - heard lesson. sometimes you have to let people fail bc if you keep propping them up they'll take advantage and remain in the same spot instead of growing.
i don't think we think of failure as a learning tool enough. instead we try to push it away. but sometimes growth is ONLY found through failure. annnd by cleaning up for others you enable their complacency. let them grow and stop carrying that burden.
