This week, #SCOTUS heard arguments for the case California v. Texas, a challenge to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that could take away the health coverage of tens of MILLIONS of people during a global pandemic.
The case against the #ACA was brought by several states, and led by Texas and the Trump administration. They argued that the whole law must be struck down just because Congress reduced the ACA’s tax penalty for individuals without health insurance to zero.
The Center joined 81 other organizations and filed a “friend-of-the-court” brief in the Supreme Court defending the #ACA: https://bit.ly/2WERhrz .
The #ACA has improved coverage for reproductive health care, including access to contraception, ensuring 60+ million women have access to no-copay contraceptive counseling and services.
Access to maternal health care, well-woman visits, cancer screenings, screening for intimate partner violence, breastfeeding services and supplies, STI screening, and HIV testing were ALL made available without copay thanks to the #ACA.
