According to his old website, DJ Spinbad recorded this tape on a broken 4-track so he could only use three tracks.
And it's still one of the best mixtapes ever created.
What a legend. RIP.

Hard to convey how groundbreaking this tape was.
Song selection, sequence, mixing and technique, blends, movie samples—it was the perfect balance of accessible and technical mastery.

There was a real magic in listening to tapes like this before everything about DJing was kind of demystified.
I don't even know if I have the vocabulary to really explain it correctly, but it felt like you were listening to master craftsman do something amazing and impossible to replicate.
The sequel was also a classic. According to Spinbad's Mixcloud, the late DJ AM called it the "best mixtape of all time."

'Needle to the Groove' a burner too.
From Spinbad's Mixcloud: "This was originally an exclusive mixtape (yes, CASSETTE) I made for Manhattan Records in Japan in 1999. Little known fact: I recorded this off all vinyl in DJ Jazzy Jeff's studio in Philly."
