I’m really happy & touched that people care so much about suicide prevention that they post the hotline number. But I think we need to do some major revamping of the hotline. I shouldn’t have waited over 10 minutes to be connected with someone just for them to tell me to (1/4)
go to the doctor in under 3 minutes and say to me “the goal of calling your doctor is to keep you from being hospitalized.” Because I called my doctor who just told me to go the ER but I was scared. I made my attempt 5 days later. At that point I truly did need the hospital (2/4)
& to be watched 24/7. Again, I am so happy to see folks caring but the suicide prevention hotline is not the answer. The answer is healthcare for all so folks can get the services they need (meds, therapy, hospitalization if needed, etc) and to improve quality of life (3/4)
(loan forgiveness so folks arent in debt and struggling to get by, affordable housing, etc). This wont completely erase depression and suicide attempts/completions but it will drastically lower them & assist those who need it in getting help to improve their quality of life (4/4)
