There's a specific thing I'm very salty about in the H/annibal fandom where months ago a bunch of new fans created a barrier between them and older fans and now I keep running across headcanons and aus from the newer fans which the older fans had already discussed years ago
And it's not that I think the older fans were superspecialoriginalthinkers because they came up with it earlier, it's that by dividing that fandom in that way there is a tremendous loss of the history and culture of that fandom, and loss of content that could have BUILT on it
And I know it's just a silly little fandom for a little show that lasted a couple years and these microcultures are not THAT important and special in the greater scheme of things but the evolution and history of fanculture is something I find so interesting and joyful
So a bunch of folks just chucking that away like it's meaningless because they don't like the ppl who created it and then... just repeating the same activity, just, that sucks.
I can't imagine it's the only fandom that's gone through this in recent years.

As a person who has been diving back into some very old fandoms lately and being tremendously disappointed by the amount of content that probably existed and has been wiped off the internet, I'm SALTY.
(I just wanna add: please don't read this thread as thinking that all new fans "owe" anything to older fans or have to do work before participating, there's nothing wrong with just coming in and doing your own thing. This is about a specific dynamic in this specific fandom.)
