Me attempting to explain what kinning is: A Thread
So right off the bat, I guess I should come out as a kinnie myself. I don't know why other people do it, I don't know why *I* do it, but it's just a thing that people do...I guess

I guess the best way I could describe my personal experience is, basically, me seeing myself a lot in a specific fictional character and getting attached due to those similarities

—very isolated and unable to relate to other people growing up, so I always found comfort in characters that I felt like were similar to me personally wise.
I was never aware of what my personality actually was, but being able to compare yourself to a character who— (3/7 )

Some people who kin will talk about "kin memories" which, for the record, I know nothing about.
Some kinnies don't like being around people who kin the same characters, which I personally found weird since...well the only reason I kin is because (5/7 )

—I want to find people I can relate to, real or not.
I don't like to make generalizations, but I would like to believe that the majority of people who kin are neurodivergent in some way
(As in, autism spectrum, adhd, etc)

Feel free to add onto this thread since I'm sure somebody has FAR more knowledge on the subject than I would. I don't participate a lot in "kin culture", it's more of a bizarre coping mechanism for me if anything.
