👑 19/20’s king of the 1v1 was #Ryan! 👑

#Ryan saved an astonishing 70% of the 1v1s he faced!

He is a rare breed of GK that can both:
Stay calm & deep & trust his reactions during long range 1v1s
&
Engage & execute the block & spread effectively during close range 1v1s
One of the reasons #Ryan was so effective at stopping 1v1s is his execution of the block technique.

#Ryan was awesome at staying deep & forcing the striker to come to him before eventually rushing out executing the block & minimising the goal area thus making the save.

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
#Ryan saved an incredible 16/21 1v1s where he attempted to use the block technique highlighting just how good his pre-shot decison making, movement & technical execution was.

The fact #Ryan did this in the #PremierLeague highlights just how useful the block technique is to a GK.
It wasn’t just the block that #Ryan excelled at. He also knew that for central 1v1s where more goal area is exposed that the spread is the optimum strategy.

Below highlights again just how quick he is off his line & how his technical execution allows him to make big 1v1 saves.
Finally #Ryan’s main strength is his ability to stay calm & wait deep during long range 1v1s.

Here he waits deep as #DCL closes in knowing as #DCL won’t get closer than 14yrds this won’t beat him unless he commits himself.

This is a save very few #PremierLeague GKs would make.
#Ryan saved a massive 12/17 long range 1v1s far more than any other #PremierLeague GK!

This is because he does not panic or over commit himself pre shot therefore he always forces the striker into a proper finish which more often than not they cannot do thus they cannot beat him
I think one of the reasons #Ryan is so underrated is because of when he doesn’t make the save often it can look quite bad to the untrained eye.

Here is a rare example where he rushes too early which means he can’t set the block close enough to the CF thus it megs’ him & rolls in
The only weakness I can find in #Ryan’s 1v1 game is that occasionally he uses the flawed engage & react technique.

In fact he has used it 4 times & conceded on all 4 occasions!

Again it should be stressed these mistakes are rare but the outcomes do often look embarrassing.
Here for example he gets megged by a very weak #Sterling header after he rushes out then tries to react.

If he had dropped into a block rather than used the engage & react like he usually does he would have easily saved this & had an even higher 1v1 save%!
Conclusion:

Last year #Ryan was the best GK at saving 1v1 situations in the #PremierLeague as he saved 70% of the situations he faced.

This was down to his incredible technical execution & decision making which consistently gave the striker the hardest possible finish.
