The whole closing of the flood wall today has me thinking about how in the 70s the city displaced an entire Black community (Fulton) bc of flooding and then 20 years later built a flood wall to protect the low-lying neighborhoods of shockoe bottom and manchester instead
Fulton is actually OG richmond and no one talks about this
Fun fact: one brick rancher from the displaced area of Fulton remains bc the owners were able to keep it up to code at the time
