A quick plug for therapy! I’ve talked a little about it in the past but in these [waves hands] stressful times seems like worth a mention.
I struggle with depression, sometimes more sometimes less. I used seek out therapy just when things were really bad—that was a mistake. 1/
I now have regular therapy sessions every week, without fail. I don’t shout it from the rooftops (well, I guess now I am), but I am open an unapologetic about that. I’m not ashamed of it either. /2
Openness is important to me bc I want other people to feel the same way, if therapy is something they need. It doesn’t make me happy & perfect all the time. But it definitely keeps my depression in check—and when there’s a dip, we catch it early before I start bottoming out 3/
In this pandemic, I have not changed my therapy schedule (although it gets adjusted as needed). If you are struggling, I strongly encourage you to seek it out—so many virtual resources now that weren’t so readily available before. 4/
I know there’s a lot of stigma re mental health in our prof’n, but it’s starting to get better. And being open about it is part of that. So if you need someone to chat with about it, or help finding a referral, my DMs are open, and I will always do whatever I can to help. /end ❤️
And for BLE I’ll reiterate, a person’s history of seeking mental health treatment is sign they are responsible & GOOD for prof’n. Very, very few conditions are unmanageable/ untreatable. No one should ever be excluded from bar or treated unworthy of prof’n for seeking treatment.
