It's wild to me that when I post something about surveillance, a consistent reply is--"well x tech already does this thing, so why worry" because I think we've seen enough examples that adding layers and multiple vectors to surveillance technologies magnifies the harms.
So, while phones do track us, it will continue to get worse as you add fitbits, ALPR's, Ring doorbells, Amazon Sidewalk, Facebook VR goggles.
This doesn't appear to me to be a controversial claim.

One way to understand it might be that the people who dismiss the idea that *more* surveillance equals a magnification of harms are people who do not understand surveillance as a harm to begin with.
