The waiting game... While new GS partners wait for the phone to ring... And the rest of us wait for JPoweIl... I will tell you about my "call" back in 2012.
I was sitting next to @CNBCJou who was my right hand and the up & coming rock star on the hedge fund rates desk....
Technically, candidates that are on the bubble but not getting a call, are quietly told in advance...
Given I was based in London, and calls would be made by Lloyd and Gary in NY, I had all morning to imagine the worst case scenario... fueled in large part by @CNBCJou 
She asked... Do you really trust x (our boss) to deliver that tough message? What if you weren't even on the bubble? He would tell you right? I would be freaking out of I were you... What if he doesn't know either?
Phone Rings. I answer...
It was @CMcgarraugh, a fellow candidate asking... Did they call yet? IDK I yelled... You're on my line! And I hung up.

Behind me... people started back slapping my fx nemesis (later friend) and @CNBCJou was quick to point out... He got called already! (Gary)
Phone Rings. I answer.
It's my wife. "Are you coming to your daughter's first netball game?" Fck. I had completely forgotten. I told her I would try. Fck. Fck. Fck.

@CNBCJou then says.. Hey. I heard they call everyone by 8:30. What time is it, I ask? Forgetting that there are 100 clocks on the wall. One on my wrist and one on my phone. "8:35 she answers, I'm sorry." ( @CMcgarraugh calls 3 more times. The last announcing he got called)
Fck this I decide. I'm not getting called. I wasn't warned. My boss sucks. This is terrible. I'm not missing my daughters 1st netball game!!! I called @AddisonLeeCabs and booked a motorcycle taxi to beat traffic.
Phone Rings. I answer.
It was Addison Lee with instructions to meet the driver. They would call again when outside. I'm packing my stuff. @CNBCJou asks... What should I tell people? Me: idgaf. When taxi calls tell them I'm coming down.

Another line rings. @CNBCJou picks up and says. I don't mean to interrupt... But your taxi is here. Should I cancel?
I thought about it for about a minute. Gave her a high 5 and said... Nah. They can't un-call me now... As I ran off the trading floor she yelled..."What should i tell people?" - I'm at a very important meeting 
If you are lucky enough to have your phone ring... Remember your family sacrificed as much as you did. Keep going to the games and the plays and the date nights...
While you celebrate the people getting called today, think as much about the ones that don't. Tomorrow begins the race for 2022. #KeepRunning
