Listen, I'm pissed that the guy throwing a tantrum is trying to cloak himself in the law in an attempt to usurp one of the cornerstones of our government too.
If you talk to me for more than 10 minutes, you become very aware that this isn't just a job or a profession to me. It's a passion. I genuinely love the law, and the practice of it. I believe it can be a force for good, to help the helpless.
So yeah, you could say that I'm a little upset to see it being perverted by a demagogue and his sycophants in an attempt to bend it to their will on the national, and international, stage.
At the same time, this happens every day to those who are unable to afford representation. The law is often perverted into a means to attack, oppress, and ruin the underprivileged.
All that is legal is not just. All that is just is not legal.
All that is legal is not just. All that is just is not legal.
It's the fucked up dichotomy of our system. It angers me on a daily basis.
I'm more pissed about it presently. But I don't think I'm ever not pissed about it on some level.
In the words of the Hulk - "I'm always angry."

I'm the guy who once sat in my office at 1 a.m. telling ym spouse "I'll be home soon, but I gotta get this done first because these people trust me to take care of them."
I'm angry beyond belief this horseshit is eroding the faith of the people in this system.
I'm angry beyond belief this horseshit is eroding the faith of the people in this system.
And yeah, I've spent a few days trying to put into words the anger I've been feeling about this specific topic, because on one hand I say "Everybody gets their day in court," but on the other hand I think "These assholes don't want a day in court. They want an excuse."
Oh, and don't think I'm not pissed that the DNC fed into this wholesale assault on our judicial system.
Getting rid of the filibuster was a dipshit move. It basically guaranteed we will never have a consensus candidate for a bench in the very federal courts that will determine these measures.
The GOP has a huge amount of the blame in being obstructionist, party-over-country assholes under Obama. But getting rid of cloture on lower court nominees means only where the President and the Senate majority differ will there ever be a measured judiciary again.
And considering all federal judicial appointments are lifetime nominees, we have to deal with a partisan judiciary for a long fucking time since the GOP immediately leapt at the short-sighted measure to obstruct like hell once they were in the majority again to keep seats vacant.
Specifically so they could fill them with underqualified and/or unqualified, young appointees once they held the Executive branch and the Senate that the rest of the country would have to deal with.
The wholesale assault on our judiciary and legal system started 10 years ago, and it won't stop anytime soon.
Okay...I think I'm done venting...
Okay...I think I'm done venting...
ACTUALLY NO.
HOW FUCKING STUPID DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO THINK THERE WAS A LINE?
Seriously, the DNC was like "Well, we'll get rid of it on THESE nominations, but the Supreme Court is sacrosanct, we can all agree on that, so we'll keep it there, right?"

And expected a group of two-faced weasels to fucking play along with the hand-wringing "this far but no further, nobody would violate THAT boundary" bullshit.
THERE IS NO GODDAMN LINE. They don't care about our institutions, our Constitution, our government, our traditions. They don't care about shit unless it benefits them to do so.
They're revival preachers who rail about the evils of whiskey, then go home and crack a bottle.

Okay.
NOW I think I'm done.
Forgive me for believing that we should at least be able to require 60 full grown adults agree on lifetime appointments that will impact generations of Americans and the rule of law.
