This narrative around how great schools were for kids prior to the shutdown is really something. We're just going to sit here & pretend that schools were welcoming places for all families before this huh? They were not. Full stop.
Yes student mental health is important. And it was important that they be safe, welcoming & culturally affirming spaces prior to this. Stop using this argument to send educators & kids back into Covid-19 hot zones. It's disingenuous.
If we're truly concerned about student mental health, let's talk about that. How can our communities come together & provide outreach & services without endangering people's lives further? How can we take care of student AND educator health?
Because every educator I know wants to be back in the classroom. We don't want to die or put our own families at risk. We shouldn't have to. And this shouldn't have to be said over & over again.
