So earlier this week the CDC released recommendations for celebrating Thanksgiving.

What a normal person might think: Cool. This is good to know. Now I know how to best protect myself and my family for whatever it is we plan to do.

What right-wing Twitter thinks: HOW DARE THEY
These are all good tips. It acknowledges that this is an important time for a lot of people and comes from an understanding that simply saying "Don't have gatherings" probably isn't effective.

But it's definitely not some kind of edict.
Even though these recommendations were delivered as gently as possible, these guys on the right are absolutely committed to losing their minds over everything. Watch this video. Owning the libs by purposely hosting a high-risk event? I mean, ok. https://twitter.com/RubinReport/status/1326628318574043136
Notice in that video he keeps saying "have to."

They're telling us we have to sit this far apart/have to have windows open/have to have to have to, etc.

Except there's not one thing the CDC says anyone has to do. It put out a list of recommendations, not requirements.
Personally, I'm not going to have any sort of gathering/go to any sort of gathering this year. It seems like common sense. But if I was going to do it, it'd be nice to know what precautions I could be taking.
It's all so performative... https://twitter.com/JoeBorelliNYC/status/1326608051739234304
The reason this is still even on anyone's radar, let alone burning across the country, is because we couldn't take painful early steps necessary to mitigate the risk and damage.
What if in March the government just gave every person a month of income to just stay inside and do absolutely nothing? And what if we listened? I imagine that 8 months later we wouldn't be in this situation.
For all the people who made false choices between lives and the economy, it's pretty clear that we would have been better off in terms of both had we just taken a strong stance on this from the start. But we didn't, so now people are dying *and* the economy is still sputtering.
As I said, performative
Again, performative
