I'd like to add that having a bad experience with one or two individuals in a church is not the same thing as having a bad experience with a church. Chances are the actions of those individuals do not reflect the heart of the majority in the church. https://twitter.com/mattmooreyo/status/1326736168218718209
Second addition: Most people you hear on the Twitters may have (true!) evangelical horror stories to tell. But there are many evangelicals who experience same-sex temptations who you will never hear from because they don't broadcast their struggle or have beef with the church.
I believe the conversations happening online – whether about same-sex issues, race, or experiences in complementation churches – are often not indicative of what's actually happening in most places. We're gonna hear about the bad, the beefs, and the ugly, not so much the good.
Last thought (for now): we'd be wise to remember that when it comes to Twitter testimonies, we are usually only hearing one side of the story with no evidence. Just because somebody claims to be a victim doesn't mean they are or that they are to the extent they claim.
