/ The hit piece on @kylamb8 and @jhaskinscabrera by @MiamiHerald article by @NickNehamas was just so laughably bad that I had to write a thread. I mean, I don't even know where to start. Actually, I do, at the beginning...(my apologies that some of the images aren't formatted) https://twitter.com/jhaskinscabrera/status/1326741260208582656
a/ I'm not well versed on biowar, but my sense is if you're trying to discredit someone, you shouldn't start the article with a list of things that he's gotten right.
b/ I have some thoughts on unnamed sources leveling ad hominem attacks. It's called cowardice. Awesome journalism here.
/ So much wrong in just one, run-on sentence. It appears FL is doing just fine, better than almost all other states.
/ Also, the stringency of lockdowns has no correlation to virus spread. You should know this by now. @pandata19 has all the tools you'll need to investigate this. https://twitter.com/ifihadastick/status/1326562129063923713?s=20
/ And DeSantis never downplayed the virus’ severity, he’s just correctly diagnosed the damage that lockdowns cause. There's an entire thread here dedicated to the disastrous byproducts of lockdowns. https://twitter.com/FD2403/status/1325860728537026561?s=20
/ He didn’t respond for comment? No kidding, I wouldn’t either. You attacked his livelihood, intelligence, and character without ever having met or spoken to him.
/ This is just wasted breath. Human intervention hasn’t stopped the virus anywhere in the world. It’s factual that young people are at “incredibly low” risk from the virus (if you’re healthy and under 70 you’re at low risk). Not sure what the quotes are trying to imply.
/ Can you elaborate on “falsely suggested”? Have you looked at the death certificates like @jhaskinscabrera or are you merely virtue signaling? You said yourself you hadn't seen them.
/ Project for @NickNehamas , Milwaukee County does make the data available, so go sort by Covid deaths and tell us what you think. I'm guessing some of these folks voted also...(that's a joke...maybe). https://county.milwaukee.gov/EN/Medical-Examiner/Public-Data
/ Florida is looking pretty good to me, by the way. Both charts from @jhaskinscabrera. I know facts and public data are scary for the narrative.
/ Claiming scientific consensus, in the overwhelming absence of consensus, is so broad that it’s unarguable. This is what you do when you’re out of ammo.
/ You finally found the smoking gun! Kyle was turned down for a sports journalism job in a highly competitive industry! I’ve been turned down from jobs, I don’t see that as a character flaw. Worthless comments.
/ Attacking someone for the way they make a living during very tough times shows an astounding lack of self awareness and is riddled with pompous elitism. I’m also convinced that you don’t fully understand the definition of “conspiracy theory”.
/ You criticized his past employment and then attacked his new position with @GovRonDeSantis and minimized his role…while still dedicating an entire article to him. Grow up.
/ And why does a college degree matter? Staggeringly arrogant. But while we’re on the subjec, no matter how pointless, you failed to mention that @jhaskinscabrera has degrees in electrical engineering from Princeton and Berkeley when you were attacking her findings w/o merit.
/ People talk about how divided we are as a country. We aren’t more divided in thought than we were 20 or 50 years ago, but we’re certainly less respectful. Everyone has their own beliefs system and opinions, who are we to judge?
/ I don’t know Kyle either, but I do know that he’s done far more substantive data analysis than some of the tweets you cherry picked. Let’s talk about that through respectful debate, not through character assassination.
I have friends from all over the political spectrum...
/ I, myself, have voted for Rs and Ds in my life. Try to understand people before attacking them. Be more thoughtful.

@miamiherald, stop the name calling and have an open, respectful debate. But this childish gotcha journalism has to go. Poor effort and bad look.
