#CWV's HMMS Goal Keeper Evan Hines had never played the position before this season. Having only one hand did not stop him from stepping up, volunteering to try, and then earning the job.

Moving from starting in the midfield to Goal Keeper isn't what kids normally sign up for...
Evan did it because the team needed him to.

Being a very good field player and exceptional athlete he took to his new job quickly and earned high praise for teammates and opponents alike making several magnificent saves this season.
In the final game of the season vs arch rival John Adams MS Evan faced a break away 1v1 with the game tied 0-0 in the final minutes... A beautiful through ball from the midfield splits the right back and the center back. The striker darts in behind and picks the ball up 25yds out
Evan sees the play developing early rushes out... some parents in the stands gasp... Oh Evan what are you doing????

Making himself a hero is what he is doing.

He closes the opponent down quickly while making himself as big as possible.
Putting the striker in a tough spot needing to make a decision quickly at the top of the box. He chooses to shoot quickly... Evan sprawls taking away the angle and the shot misses narrowly wide left.

Games ends in regulation 0-0
An 8th grade captain stepping up and doing what was needed for the team.

Leaders lead and Evan showed himself to be a great leader this season.

Best soccer story I saw this Fall.... bar none.
