We're in the courtroom waiting for the #AhmaudArbery hearing to begin.
Looks like, among other things, we may see the police camera video from the day of the shooting for the first time.
A small clip of it played in the jury room where media is watching the hearing. @wjxt4
Things are getting started. I'll tweet updates on this thread. @wjxt #AhmaudArbery
Right now, the state and defense teams are arguing over what evidence can be discussed during the bond hearing, specifically evidence that would speak to the character of Ahmaud and the three men accused of killing him. @wjxt4
A biggie they are discussing now: whether "racial" (to use the words in the court filing) text messages and posts from Travis McMichael, Greg McMichael and Roddie Bryan can be brought up during the bond hearing. @wjxt4
State prosecutor, Jesse Evans, says it's relevant because they've found evidence that supports the federal investigation into civil rights crimes and because it speaks to the risk of flight and the possibility to commit other crimes. @wjxt4
The defense teams for the McMichaels say it's irrelevant - and the deadly shooting in Satilla Shores "is not about race." @wjxt4 #AhmaudArbery
Defense for Travis says the state is trying the case during the bond hearing. They say the state is making assertions they dispute. The ex they gave: "We have substantial evidence to show [Ahmaud] was not a jogger. He was there for nefarious purposes." @wjxt4 #AhmaudArbery
The defense for Greg McMichael is talking about social media posts again. The defense for the elder McMichael is arguing the appearance of a post on someone's page doesn't necessarily mean they have adopted those views. @wjxt4
Judge: "The character of the victim is not a step the court is willing to take at the bond hearing." @wjxt4 #AhmaudArbery
BIG: We will hear/see the state's exhibit of "racial" text messages and post from the McMichaels and Roddie Bryan in this bond hearing, per Judge Walmsley. Judge Walmsley says the social media posts have some relevance and he's letting it in. @wjxt4 #AhmaudArbery
JUDGE: "Eventually, we will need to select a jury [...] I will tell you right now that it is a concern of court that we are running around jumping on podcasts trying a portion of this case. I am just reminding everyone of their professional responsibility." @wjxt4 #AhmaudArbery
Judge Walmsley clarifies he's not telling anyone to stop but says he is concerned about how they will get to a trial.

State floats that they have discussed - and are open to - a gag order that would prevent the state and defense from talking to the press. @wjxt4 #AhmaudArbery
We're in a five-minute break now. For perspective, Greg and Travis McMichael appear in court via camera. They are set up at a table together in a different room. @wjxt4 #AhmaudArbery
Defense calls Allison McMichael, Greg McMichael's wife, to the stand. @wjxt4 #AhmaudArbery
Mrs. McMichael is speaking about her son, Travis, relationship with his 4-year-old son. Travis was living w/ parents for going on 2years. Mrs.McMichael is talking about how Travis saved a child while a lifeguard at a bereavement camp for kids. @wjxt4 #AhmaudArbery
Worth noting: Investigators report Travis was the person who pulled the trigger and killed #AhmaudArbery Feb 23.
DEFENSE: Did you ever witness Travis leave the house to go hunt for someone?
ALLISON MCMICHAEL: No.
@wjxt4 #AhmaudArbery
Travis's Mom, Allison McMichael, says four families have said they are willing to help with bond. She says her son wouldn't flee: "He loves home. He loves his son. He will stand up to his responsibility." A state prosecutor is talking to her now. @wjxt4 #AhmaudArbery
Another witness is coming up on behalf of Travis McMichael. An old friend - Mr. Sawyer. Mr. Sawyer says he didn't know Travis to be violent and heard no plans regarding figuring out who might have been stealing in the neighborhood. #AhmaudArbery @wjxt4
The wife of Mr. Sawyer - the second witness - is also taking the stand. Ms. Sawyer says in a conversation with Travis McMichael after the shooting, he did not feel anything he did "was on the other side of the law" and was fully aware of what he did. @wjxt4 #AhmaudArbery
Another witness (friend of Travis) on the stand now.
He said following the shooting was having trouble sleeping, lost his appetite for a couple of days.
"He felt remorseful." @wjxt4 #AhmaudArbery
The state is trying to ask Travis's friend, Zachary, about messages between Travis and Zachary. The defense is objecting to the questions. @wjxt4
The state asks if the witness remembers Travis sending him a text in Nov.2019, saying something a/b "shooting a black coon with gold teeth" Witness says he can't remember that conversation. He reads it and says he believes they were talking about a raccoon. @wjxt4 #AhmaudArbery
The state prosecutor says the witness responded to Travis's text message saying the "coon" needed some Newports and a 40. The defense says this was "some joke" between the two. @wjxt4 #AhmaudArbery
Interesting moment between the last witness and the state prosecutor Jesse Evans. Evans clarifies if the witness was there when Travis McMichael "gunned down" Arbery. She replied - changing the language - I wasn't there for that "altercation." @wjxt4 #AhmaudArbery
