[Thread] 1. There are a lot of interesting side-conversations happening regarding this event, a lot of twitter chat, and many important takes. Thanks to all. I defer to the views of others who have noted their take on the make-up/representation of the panel. I want to add this: https://twitter.com/TLRHub/status/1326531156465029127
2. Routinely overlooked when it comes to Ireland and colonial legacies is the role that some in the Irish academy continue to play when it concerns establishing links with organisations engaged in and facilitating Israeli settler-colonialism in occupied Palestine
3. Irish Universities have long established links, and indeed continue to strengthen links, with Israeli institutions, including academic institutions, shown by many critical scholars, and @PACBI, to be engaged in the ongoing colonisation of Palestinian land…
4. Yes... Ireland should critically examine its colonial history - and we are fortunate to have many excellent scholars/hubs doing just that (including many who aren't on this panel) - However, when casting our eye backwards, let us look more critically and ask ourselves…
5. How do you address imperial/colonial legacies when your own institution(s) remain embroiled in facilitating/enabling ongoing settler-colonialism in Palestine? How do we reconcile a legacy of Irish involvement in colonialism when that 'legacy' is ongoing in the present day??
6. IMHO, failure to engage in this conversation, alongside a necessary appraisal of Ireland and its role in imperialism and colonialism, renders discussions around 'decolonisation' in the Irish university sector incomplete, selective and ultimately limited.
